What is the Tidewater Collection?

The Tidewater Collection is a licensed collection of furniture and home accents designed by Jamie Merida for Chelsea House. The collection takes traditional design elements & updates them for today’s interiors with painted finishes, burnished metals, and natural stone. You may order items from the Tidewater Collection in our online store.

Bountiful Interiors is a retail furniture store on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, which includes a design center staffed by four fulltime designers. Why design the Tidewater Collection?

Traditional furniture designs remain popular because of their lovely, graceful lines. Because they are often made from dark woods, they can often be difficult to blend into today’s brighter, more open interiors. Jamie Merida believes that while good design should always be respected, it is never static. With an eye for what is best in traditional home furnishings design and a commitment to bringing fresh, exciting interpretations of those motifs to market, he has lightened the color palette, brightened finishes, and incorporated unexpected elements like natural stone & mirrors into his collection. Where does the name of this collection come from?

The Tidewater Region of the United States spans the Atlantic Ocean’s coastal plain and the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. It is a uniquely beautiful area marked by dramatic beaches, moody marshland, & jutting cliffs. The tides themselves leave their twice-daily mark of the region. As they advance & retreat they leave the imprint of the ocean—and all that lives in it—behind them. This is the region where America’s first settlers came to start new lives. They too made their mark in the grand old homes and village cottages they built for their families. Jamie Merida has long lived on Maryland’s scenic Eastern Shore, part of the Tidewater Region, and draws inspiration for his new collection from the beauty he sees around him every day. Pieces in this new collection are named for some of the elegant Tidewater homes that dot the region and remind visitors that quality & good design transcend time.
